I feel like we could use some classic 88x31 buttons for this site, so you're all encouraged to make them (for particular boards or the site as a whole). PNG for static and GIF for animated. Here's a real simple one I made.

the OC page idea sounds cool, similar to what heyuri has on their wiki. i made a second version of the one i did yesterday, using a grey bg. i think it looks a bit better. i also made one for /lum/. i love the little retro sprites too, i wish there were more retro uy games made but i guess by that time ranma was more popular.

thanks anon. i don't know much about graphic design, so i'm glad you think they look good. this site fits a really cool niche that i'm into, and the layout of this site really helps that. i just wish there was a little bit more of a sense of community and more activity. i'm trying being the change i want to see instead of just lurking here .

Greetings fellow retro lovers!
MAGUDAN-BBS is dedicated to retro Japanese 16 color computer graphics and FM/MIDI music made on platforms like the PC98 and X68K. New works inspired by the classics are also allowed and encouraged to be posted. If this subject interests you, come on over and apply for membership - no email required! Here's also a little CMCG I made for Wapchan that is featured on the link page.

Hi all,
I know the current UI is kind of a mess, especially the front page with a bunch of sets of buttons. I'm planning on improving it, but since I'm not really a UX kind of guy, I'd like to ask you all for feedback on how the layout should be. Visual drawings/mockups would be greatly appreciated. Trying to make the site better for everyone!

Frontend code is available at https://github.com/figamin/WapLynx-Neo in case anyone wants to submit pull requests

Best I can do at the moment is provide an example of how my own message board system is laid out. It's largely inspired by the iframe-driven UI of 5ch and Futaba, where the left-side panel is for navigating boards, except I've done it with divs instead on every page as a sort of template. Likewise, the top menu holds always available options, like going back to the homepage by clicking the logo image, registration, login, and changing the UI language. The rest of the screen estate is taken up by the currently opened page's content.

SSH backdoor in upstream xz/liblzma release tarballs!
https://www.openwall.com/lists/oss-security/2024/03/29/4

After observing a few odd symptoms around liblzma (part of the xz package) on Debian sid installations over the last weeks (logins with ssh taking a lot of CPU, valgrind errors) I figured out the answer:

The upstream xz repository and the xz tarballs have been backdoored.

At first I thought this was a compromise of debian's package, but it turns out to be upstream.

(x) that you are actually Mr. Freund

but the security vulnerability is real. its important to note that the specific repository affected for the ssh backdoor is actually UPSTREAM from the ssh package itself. The affected package is 5.6.0+ of https://packages.debian.org/sid/liblzma5 for debian, or xz-utils on ubuntu https://packages.ubuntu.com/search?keywords=xz-utils

The actual repository is currently private but is called xz. Details on the specifics of the backdoor are given at the provided link in OP. Make sure that the package is *downgraded* to a version prior to 5.6.0 or otherwise removed from the system.

Yeah, we could use an entirely new set (pretty much all of them came from an old forum, and the few i made were kinda rushed)
I think it would be cool if we went for a pixel art style. Takes effort but they'd look real nice.

Sure. If you want to make something I'll put it on
