I have heard several times of Kavinsky, but I haven't heard much of his songs. Anyway, that one was cool.
And since we're in a 80s mood:

I never heard of that band, but I really enjoyed that song. Also, that cover art looks really cool. I would even like to read a comic book about that warrior woman. Actually, that image reminds me of Alfonso Azpiri's artwork.
By the way, here's another metal song from the 80's.

The cover art reminds me of the art for the early Warhammer 40k editions. Must be something about the UK in the 80s.

Never heard anything from 'Trouble' before, but it was a very enjoyable song, even if I am not usually the greatest adept of doom metal. There's certainly something special about 80's metal. I don't known musical theory or anything of the sort, but riffs and voice feel kind of "drier" (in a good way), while the overall composition feels a little amateur-ish (again, in a good way).

In any case, I'm glad to see somewhat of a resurgence of that old style, named by some NWOTHM (New Wave of Traditional Heavy Metal). It is not exactly the same -and it shouldn't be after 30 years-, but the similarity I feel it to be there:

That song is awesome. I don't know what it is, but there's something about it that I really like. I even listened to some of their other songs and all of them are pretty good. I should listen some of their albums.
And since I'm here, I'll post another metal song from the 80's.

That song is so beautiful. I remember listening to it on the radio when I was a kid. There are a few nice covers of that song, but the original version is still the best no matter what.
I'm a little ashamed to post the very first video that plays after yours, but I enjoyed the song and I wanted to share it here. The lyrics are quite melancholy, especially the part where he sings "anyone who wants to be happy must not remain silent."

I don't think I am that anon, for I didn't share much dungeon synth in the old tower or in MC. With that said, and if I can still dare to answer your question, some 'classics' of Dungeon Synth are:
Depressive Silence II (1996): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OxgVmpAk538
Enchantment of the Ring (1997):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XKSu-wZChcQ
Crypt of the Wizard (1996):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mpj3NX5_A90
Medieval Journeys (1998): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DLFDe-AfKhc

Previous examples are now seen as kind of 'old-school', as the themes and sounds of Dungeon Synth have grown and expanded considerably. Some well regarded productions of more recent times are:
Fief II (2016):

Yesterday I tried to get into Controlled Bleeding. In these types of cases, I usually listen the entire discography of the band in order of release, but since Controlled Bleeding has a lot of albums, I decided to listen some of their most popular songs first. So far, I've enjoyed these two songs:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ost2KzR_vIY

The last one reminds me a little of Swans early music.

I haven't heard a lot of dungeon synth, but this album sounds totally different to what I was expecting. I really enjoyed it and I found the "lyrics" quite interesting. I'm not a religious person, but I must confess I found the lives of most saints very inspiring. By the way, thank you for this post >>211.

I really don't like the Transformers movies (first one was fun but I don't really like the rest of them). I really like the main theme though. Gets stuck in my head a lot in a good way, not an annoying way.

I'm a turbo pleb when it comes to music. Mostly I just download whatever top rated albums are on rating sites like rateyourmusic. Though my taste is very entry level, here are few tracks I like with some commentary.

Artist:65daysofstatic| Album:The Fall of Math| Track:This Cat is a Landmine| Genre:Post Rock / Math Rock|
I really like this album's sound. I don't know if this is the right term, but it feels really well mastered. Most albums I listen to sound somewhat flat. In this one I feel like each of the instruments is very well defined without breaking apart or ruining the somewhat distorted/dissonant mood of the sound. A mood which I don't feel is replicated in their later albums.

Artist:Giles Corey| Album:Giles Corey| Track:No One is Ever Going to Want Me|
A noise and distortion based take on traditional acoustic singer/songwriter stuff and folk like Simon and Garfunkel. Typically I don't really like lyrical music, but the sound is appealing and it has very relatable lyrics.

Personally I go through youtube playlist after playlist. It's really slow since 95% of what you find doesn't end being too god but when you find something special is really rewarding. Then you can look for everything associated with that particular band/genre.

Phantasma Regnorum Oblitorum (2016) - a Dungeon Synth album of heroic-mediaeval inspiration. Even if the tracks' names are written in french, the title is in latin, and translates to: 'Ghost of the Forgotten Kingdoms'. Even if a little generic, I specially like the first track (Une Bataille Perdue Dans Le Temps) , the fifth one (Salle d'Études de la Guilde des Mages) and the ninth one (Sous la Forêt d'Erewel, Ur-Nebryzias). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E0_PPX6J_Dk

>95% of what you find doesn't end being too god but when you find something special is really rewarding.
If you can suffer the elitism and the general culture of 4chan, /mu/ is occasionally worth checking out if there is a thread up for genres or themes you like. I think that their elitism and contrarianism can sometimes lead to the discovery of truly hidden gems. Regarding DS specifically, Bandcamp is its natural environment; sometimes in /mu/ there are winter threads (December) dedicated exclusively to DS.

 No.450

>>445
I thought about /mu/ but I really didn't feel like going at the end. To understand how 4chan boards work you need to understand the boards are actually about things to hate; /v/ is a board for people who hate videogames, /a/ is a board for people who hates anime, and so on. So I suppose /mu/ is a board for people who hates music, so any kind of music you post there will be "shit", "entry level shit" or "hipster shit". Not really what I need.

 No.452

>>433
Rateyourmusic, you can look up genre charts by year or all time, pretty cool site. I used to go to /mu/ a lot in the first half of the previous decade, and pretty much discovered all the music and genres i like. For some reason i completely lost interest in music like 6 years ago, I don't know what happened but i barely listened to anything new since then.

 No.472

>>433
Normally I just search for similar bands/sounds or if I'm dipping my toes into the genre I look up the more popular bands and start from there. Websites devoted to a specific genre or sub-genre can be useful (I know it's taboo on imageboards these days but Reddit seems to have a community for every sub-genre). As others have pointed out though I avoid /mu/ because they seem to be filled with contrarians and people who like things ironically (apparently liking things "unironically" is bad now).

If things can get more stable and economically better I'm thinking about starting a vinyl collection. Do any of you have any experience with that?
I think it's not the same to listen a full album in a physical format than just listening whatever random songs youtube ends choosing for you while doing whatever else.
I would like to start with really famous, well known stuff, I'm listening this now;

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ax5sAXcUfyU&list=RDaXAthCVbnDI&index=2

There's so many "great albums of the history of music" that everyone knows but aren't that much listened today. Being musically iliterate until now means I can discover all that stuff while I'm old and I have developed some taste.

I would like to have some progressive rock, post-punk, maybe some new wave.
I have a thing for some Beatles albums too. Mostly really essential stuff of popular music from 60's to 80's. Like;
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X7eMUU9RE7k
Your average top albums of the century material, with some particular things I could like.

Thinking about it makes me sad what kind of music everyone listens today and how it was just some decades ago. The epitome of commercialism in the 60's could have been a band that revolutionized popular music like no one else did before and tried an enormous range of styles, even the most experimental. While today it would be, well, I don't even want to think about it. Maybe I'm just getting old and it's all the same, but I somehow doubt it.

Do you attach memories of periods of your life to music? What I mean by this is something like this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NUVCQXMUVnI

Summer of 2010. I used to play this while I was grinding in Metin2. I've great memories of this game. It was my first MMORPG and despite now being incredibly outdated, still to this day it's one of the game I've sank more hours in.

Early 2015. I used to listen to this while I was playing Arche Age when I used to get back from high school in the late afternoon.

September 2017. My father was at the hospital and I had to go find him every day. When I came back from the hospital I used to listen these songs while I was playing TESO. Also this period of my life was blissful: I used to be a NEET since a couple of months from dropping out of university.

Absolutely yes, there are periods of my life that I can hear the music I was listening to at the time, when I reminisce about them, and when I listen to music I have already listened to, I instantly recall the period of my life when I discovered it or started listening to it constantly. I can share some of mine:

1-2008 to 2010: Linkin Park's In The End and Crawling https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eVTXPUF4Oz4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gd9OhYroLN0
Dealing with heavy school bullying and loneliness which caused my depression to which I suffer to this date, with no end in sight. Dropped out in 2010, never finished school. Later in that same year, I tried committing suicide for the first time by hanging myself with an old rope I found lying around, which tore a few seconds after I kicked the wooden stool I was on. If only there was a better rope available at that time.

2-2011 to mid 2014: Alumina which is Death Note's ending theme https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fhgwSyRmAb8 , Higurashi no Naku Koro ni's OP https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9opZi6PluKI , Hikari no Rasenritsu which is Rozen Maiden Traumend's ED https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vMMg_Hlchcg , Faylan's Blood Teller https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nAgy2U7US0I and Yousei Teikoku's Filament https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zfxYLORjWCg which are Mirai Nikki's ED songs, and finally One Reason by Fade which is Deadman Wonderland's OP https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ICpzoZozwCU

Watching YTPs, both BR ones as well the ones in English, lead me to discovering Brazilian IBs which formally introduced me to anime. This was most likely a mistake, anime coupled with nearly total isolation rapidly worsened my depression, Mirai Nikki completely destroys me. Out of all of these songs, One Reason is still the only one I still listen to from time to time and it never fails to make me feel colossal angst and fury.

3-Late 2014 to 2016: Instrumental version of David Bowie's Space Oddity https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CtBItBCZsvU and Giles Corey's two songs which I already mentioned here (and both of them are already linked and posted here on /tower/)

Gamergate happens, news of it reach Brazilian IBs, which introduced me to 8chan and Wizardchan, both of which I start lurking. It also introduced me to politics and conspiracy theories, leading me to start lurking /pol/ and occasionally hopping onto /x/. Eventually switch over to Magicchan after anti-Brazilian posts start showing up on Wiz and running into a Magicchan link someone left there. A couple more suicide attempts happen after lurking 8chan's /suicide/ but I was too stupid to properly perform the carotid compression method that got really popular there, and a post about windpipe collapse made me afraid to keep trying it.

4-2017 to mid 2018: Power Glove's I Am The Program https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_5joTyy3CCo
Got into synthwave and solo traditional gaming while diving even deeper into politics and researching conspiracy theories.

5-late 2018 to early 2021: Xurious's Revolt Against The Modern World https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OvGYhkiO_2w
Discovered spirituality and joined a National Socialist Brazilian online occult / esoteric / spiritual community. Things finally start getting better, I start focusing on self improvement. Start encountering paranormal phenomenon. As 2020 rolls in and throughout, my depression starts returning and becoming stronger and stronger as I realize how fucked humanity and this world truly is.

6-Mid 2021 to now: Molchat Doma's Kletka https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NtPk22NWB5Y
Feeling worse than I ever felt in my life, I request discharge from this online group, which is granted. I leave in great terms with the community. Start missing the volcel community, which leads

My post got cut off again, the character limit is definitely not 5120 characters, its some dozen characters less than that. To finish that last line, missing volcels such as robots, mages and wizards led me to back here.

>King Crimson
I have read that JoJo getting popular with the normalfags completely wrecked the communities of all bands and music artists referenced by it.

Fuck, forgive me Modmin but it looks like I'm going to have to triple post just this once. I'm extremely tired, stressed out due to problems at home and I was distracted by trying to conserve characters and I forgot an important part right at the end of my post. I should have written in this in the previous post where I finished it up but the exhaustion and the stress made me completely forget about it.

Mid 2021 to now: Right after leaving the online society I was a part of, I tried killing myself yet again by swallowing some old clonazepam pills there were still lying around since 2013. I always have been reluctant to try suicide by drugs due to how many reports of failed attempts there are, but I was miserable and desperate enough that I just faced the high chance of failure and gulped them all down while listening to Esprit by Esprit https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2pApIwI3Nic . I went to bed and waited for the unconsciousness and drift off into death as the song played through my earbuds and tears ran down my face. I blacked out but unfortunately woke up in the next morning feeling woozy, but fine. I never had a more miserable morning in my life. After some months of lurking /jp/ boards to pass the time, I started missing the volcel communities, as I have already mentioned, and found a link to here while reading old Lizchan threads out of boredom. I will always associate Esprit with this failed suicide attempt.

Just wanted to share little snippet, everytime I listen to this I get swamped by the feels of peace and happiness that being a teenager was compared to now.

Maybe some other mage will feel the same.

Sort of bittersweet as most of them I only sort of recognise and being a teenager was about as bad as now so I'm feeling nostalgia over a comfortable and happy past that I didn't even have.

>I'm feeling nostalgia over a comfortable and happy past that I didn't even have.
I've often noticed this myself. I wonder if all my thoughts of there being good times in the past are just tricks of the mind.

 No.1888

>>1885
I think it's a defensive measure because going over the bad memories all the time (which happens anyway) is psychologically harmful. Normalfags remember the good parts too but we have to imagine them. It's pretty bad when there's nothing there that's worth remembering.

It's really interesting when artists decide to remake their older songs, especially if they make a totally different take on them. Here are a couple of examples:

>Macabre (Pre-Pentagram) - Be Forewarned

>Pentagram - Be Forewarned

>Swans - Yrp

Semi unrelated picture, by the way.

Really nice songs. I love how ""hypnotic" they are.

I'm sorry. It looks like there was a problem with my connection and the image wasn't attached.

I'm not from the US but the translated version of this song reminds me of when I was in kindergarten where they made us sung it.

I'm not from the US either, but I have no idea that song was translated to other languages. Out of curiosity, I took a look at Second Hand Songs and found many different versions of the song in several languages.

>Mandarin version
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2rDb4upMkp8
>Italian version
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RPh3SFI0e9M
>Spanish version
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hUoGHp2EiiQ

Now that I think about it, I shouldn't be surprised by this. It's very popular and old song; it makes sense that it has so many versions. Out of curiosity, which version did you use to sing when you were in kindergarden?
