When has a remake ever been good?
No.294
>>291The problem with remakes is that they keep remaking good games because it's the easy thing to do. I'm sure the Fate/Extra remake will be good since the original was a glorified mobile game. That being said I like the new FF7 remake because it's a reimagining that should be treated as its own game. I don't like when remakes take over the discourse for a game. When people talk about RE1 nowadays they only talk about the remake and that pisses me off!! Remake bad games with good ideas or make reimaginings is what I say just about everwhere.
No.298
i want a good Oblivion remake so bad. it was my first Elder Scrolls game and i still go replay it periodically. the old jank is charming but a quality remake would be so fun. same with New Vegas.
No.299
>>294I didn't like what I saw of the FF7 remake but I agree with you generally. At least it's not pretending to be a replacement for the original, unlike RE like you said or Demon's Souls.
Unfortunately, remakes are just seen as a lazy way to make cash, so only famous and good games are ever going to get one. And they don't need one because they're already good. It's a bit surprising to me honestly how succesful these things seem to be, but I guess there are a lot of people out there who are allergic to anything slightly older.
No.301
>>299Yeah, zoomerinos can't into old games because of graphics, le clunky controls and because they think you need to be a haxxorman to set up an emulator (picrel is literally me downloading a rom file). And most games are marketed towards kids/teenagers (see 90% of Japanese games featuring a young protagonist). But yeah I agree they're obviously cash grabs and the only way a bad game is being remade is if it's tied to a popular series.

>>307But that's exactly the point why I have faith in them: After so many flops, they will put all the efforts in the world to prove they are still worthy of AAA.
We all have to trust the developers.
No.311
>>310The problem is that good devs usually leave failing companies. They've been on a downward spiral for so long that just anybody looking to make a great game has probably moved on to another studio. The people behind the game we grew up with are gone, it's basically a different company now, probably.

Improved translations, improved combat with old combat also being an option, and sharper graphics.
You can stretch Muramasa for the Vita to be a remake of the same game for the Wii.
Also has better translations, better graphics, and has dlc which are all fantastic and unavailable on the Wii version.
Other noteables
Metroid Zero Mission
Heart gold and Soul Silver
Daggerfall Unity

>>291While I think the original is still better, the System Shock remake was actually pretty good. Mostly 1:1 but there were a few changes I didn't agree with, plus losing that cool soundtrack for an okay but unremarkable ambient soundtrack was a real disappointment. I didn't even noticed it as I played.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d-3u9vO9UUEhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GSzOcFdTClkI also think the Link's Awakening remake is pretty decent but really it's more a re-imagining. Changes up a lot of things and adds a bunch of QoL stuff. I still prefer the DX version though (and the DX HD version is a pretty cool version of THAT game as well)

No.849
>>291I know the translation was a bit funky, nothing is going to be a faithful fan translation, but I stand by the Live A Live remake being spectacular. The VA work alone was enough to send it to the moon for me, the sheer talent they got for the game is insane. Even the NA actors did a decent job across the board (Oersted's actor especially, the man killed it).
It doesn't completely overwrite the original (I still prefer the AG TL, I still prefer some music tracks, despite looking like an FFV hack I still love its graphics) but I don't think anything they make ever could for me, so I'm just happy I got a new way to enjoy a game that I love.

No.1800

>>1802There are good new games, though most of them are Japanese or indie. I don't think anyone can claim Metaphor isn't a good game, for example.
No.1813
>>1804>wasnt as aggressivethats true but i find this kind of advertisement still extremly despicable and disgusting and i think less of the product/studio as a result. for example i noticed it aswell back when the uy remake got relentlessly schilled prerelease in the same way on /a/, I made a point of not watching it or actively engaging with it.
No.1816
>>1813Unfortunately this kind of tactic has always been very common when it comes to vidya, even before the internet was taken over by bots. Sony, for instance, was notorious for shilling the PSP in every online space and even creating fake fanblogs for it.
No.1817
>>1813> I made a point of not watching it or actively engaging with itIm very similar in that my brain will just forget whatever it is that they are shilling for example i had forgotten about the oblivion shill threads untill you brought it up. >Civ 3Civ 4 is what got me started on the series, and I've played every game since then. A shame that /vst/ was, last I checked, in the phase of saying Civ 5 was always good and that Civ 6 sucked, cuz I do prefer Civ 6 now. Especially some of the meme options you can enable in Civ 6, like Secret Societies, Heroes, and Barbarian Clans. Civ 4 modded will always hold my heart (Fall from Heaven 2 is the GREATEST! So is Rise of Mankind: A New Dawn!), but the subsequent vanilla Civ games are big upgrades on each other. I play Civ 6 with like, interface mods and that's it.

I have nothing to say other than I hate this guy. I hate him so much. I am downloading an invincibility mod just so I can defeat the bastard and finish the fucking journal. Whoever designed this boss deserves death, I mean this with zero hyperbole, I say this wholly aware that if I had my way a man (or even a team of men) would die for actions performed decades ago merely because I am momentarily inconvenienced but I cannot stop myself from seeing red. If the whole fight was Phase 1 (which is already a fucking lot) then fine. If it was Phase 1 and then Phase 2 added invisibility, fine. The fact that it's Phase 1, then Invisibility, Meteor, Meteor, Mega Flare, Tornado, Doom, Meteor, Mega Flare, Clones, Mega Flare, Orbs, Doom, Meteor, Meteor, Meteor, FUCKING MEGA FLARE, METEOR OVER AND OVER AGAIN AS IF THEY FORGOT MIDWAY THROUGH DEVELOPMENT THAT THEY DIDN'T EVEN GIVE TERRA I-FRAMES THEY CAN ALL BURN IN HELL FOREVER IT'S BAD ENOUGH I HAVE TO PLAY TERRIBLE FORTUNE STREET FOR HOURS JUST TO APPEASE YOUR SHITTY JOURNAL DID YOU REALLY NEED THIS GUY AS THE CHERRY ON TOP? >>1892I play a lot of HoI4 mods, enough that I've gotten sick of certain events in some of them. I remember the time when the Combined Syndicates of America would win in Kaiserreich's Second American Civil War EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. The news pop-up practically elicits a trauma response from me. I sometimes make Canada annex them, even when I play syndicalist nations out of reflex when they win now, and sometimes I delete all their divisions when the civil war is ongoing. Similar story with Kimball in Old World Blues, I've put up with his shit enough times that I have nothing to prove anymore, I'm done playing his sick games: the second he goes to war with the Legion, he's getting slapped with deleteallunits. Dealing with a guy who can puppet and annex neutral nations for free isn't fun the first time, let alone the 20th.

In EUIV ,i always hated how manchuria would ally itself with the inca or how some shithole like mali would ally itself with the cherokee, these stupid mechanics made everything difficult and so a war would become unwinnable.I would just go to a previous save and delete inca/mali etc. Paradox games have the most amount of rage inducing jank out of every other publisher.
I always hated how a single 1000 man army could go behind your lines and recapture every fucking province with ease,so now you would have to send your 20000 man army to chase this fucker and ofc he moves faster and keeps moving from province to province.this was very annoying in asia ,especially against ming.
