Well, it finally happened. V2 reset this twisted game and now the borders are gone. To all my scattered buddies out there I hope you find this and we can talk about Ace Combat and planes and such. We also talked about Project Wingman and other AC type games anons were working on. Also, apologies for the lack of formatting.

And, uh, I guess if anyone unfamiliar with the games or the general wants to talk about fighter jets that's cool too. Even if I'm the only one here for a while and I don't know a lot about a lot of jets I do think they're neat. … Damn, we've really been reduced to this, huh? We could barely keep a thread alive on 4chan as it was.

8 just felt so empty to me for some reason I can't really put my mind to. Maybe I just felt detached from the main story, though I guess that was kind of intentional, you don't feel the direct weight of your impact on the people on the ground. Or something.

I remember playing the demo of ace combat 6 on xbox 360 and my grandmother would always complain how the people who did 9/11 played this game.

Finally got around to playing RaidersSphere4th.
It's really not very good and almost every aspect of gameplay is fatally flawed in some incredibly obvious way, but at least it has some interesting ideas. If you squint it almost looks like a budget PS2 title in a better timeline where AC3 was popular enough to inspire a bunch of knockoffs.

I like the idea of focusing on gunfights but the balance is really off, bullet hitboxes are way too generous and they compensated for that by turning down the damage just slightly too much so the whole thing feels unsatisfying (admittedly I never bought the one plane with maxed out gun stats so maybe that's the secret).
I mean I don't hate the game, it just feels like it would have really benefited from a big balance/polish pass.

There's this one Raider you can get somewhat early on that has nearly maxxed-out guns, great turn-rate, good speed, and its only downside is low health(but on hard difficulty it really doesn't matter, just don't get hit). I think it's the pitbull or something like that.
It's also got 3 pylons and the center pylon can carry the super OP large unguided missiles that clear out a huge area of ground targets with great range.

The Pitbull was actually the Raider I was thinking about re: slightly undertuned gun damage, just enough that I either needed to stand on the airbrakes for slightly too long or go for 2-3 high speed passes to stay safe. Really would have preferred something like PS2 AC gun handling where you can semi-reliably rack up one pass kills to reward you for getting the lead figured out.

Yeah, I ran through the campaign like 3 times and used the pitbull for most of it(aside from the first run before I could afford it and the missions that force you into the Sonic-Venus). It's got enough acceleration that you can afford to slow down, go into a dogfight, and get a relatively quick kill.
Then just pull down and speed up to stay safe.
Also I think by midgame you can unlock one of the 7th gen raiders that gives you access to purchase the lead-chasing missiles which are a nearly-guaranteed kill when double fired.

I ultimately get what you mean, the game is kinda unbalanced and the pitbull being basically the best thing you can fly despite being an early-midgame unlock is just more proof of that.
But I ultimately can't hate a game that has a mission that's basically stonehenge but on a fucking space elevator.
