I've been having problems with wapchan's reply system. I hit reply but the post doesn't show up until later. Sometimes it works, then the other replys I tried to post originally show up afterwards.

>It's not in first 5 pages iirc, so no one would care about it uless someone bumped

People can scroll down the page you know. Through the catalog. There was like tons of spam in the screenshot. There's no way that was a coincidence, it was definitely linked in some way.

I am not actually sure why this happens to be honest since it's inconsistent.

By 4chan making mistakes, which it did with newest 4/jp/'s bumplock on threads that get oldish.

To combat CSAM spam once and for all, I created a custom captcha for this site (and a similar one for 39chan), where you select characters in a grid. If there are any issues let me know. Sometimes it generates too many boxes so in that case just retry it.

Which is why the greater the number of characters, the better. Because you still know the other half.

Ideally, every other captcha refresh should offer a character that an anime-friendly anon can name without thinking. Leaning too heavily into retro anime won't only filter out bots and haters, but will also create a problem for anons who prefer newer anime. Note that this isn't about what anon watches currently, it's about the earliest that anon can comfortably remember while watching 30+ anime titles a year.

I think, chosen characters should form a bell curve and the bulk of that bell curve should be between years 1995-2007. That way both /cel/ and /digi/ generations will be happy.

So, I want to ask just in case. What happens if I typed "Mion" in Shion's captcha? The system accepted it, but, umm…

Another year has passed, and Wapchan has just about made it to four.

This year had the greatest challenges the site had ever faced, with handling the traffic from the 4chan downtime and the large scale raid/DDOS from the bald man site. But through it all we managed to make it out with this site being not only more active and well known than ever, but finally SAFE. The last illegal post was over three months ago, as this version of the captcha I developed has been completely effective at its job of stopping that dreaded form of spam (as well as raid attempts).

The biggest surprise of the year was the /sp/ board becoming by far the most active on the site. They adapted very well to the site culture and I'm sure they'll keep at it over the next year.

I also would like to highlight the staff of Kissu for being such great net friends - they're helping keep the /qajp/ spirit alive, and they've helped me here and there when I've needed it. This goes for the rest of the net friends (and the sushis). Thank you to Verniy, 777, syrno, pwohmy, moth, mori, Puzzle, gloot, and the other staff that keeps this part of the imageboard world a place worth your time. And of course, the jannies of wapchan, who rest much easier these days now that they don't have to wake up constantly checking for bot spam.

Another bring spot was the soku tournaments. I'm still not great at that game but it's nice that they've managed to form a community here always up for a match.

This year I read a few great visual novels, worked on a lot of personal projects as well for anyone who follows me on xitter and met a lot of great people who enjoy this same kind of niche content. Thank you to all who make Wapchan the /kind/est imageboard around while still being interesting. It's a tough balancing act but it's something I really believe in.

Moving forward, I'm looking to bring back the IRC in the new year, as well as expand the radio variety. I'm probably going to be less directly focused on developing wapchan now that it runs itself to an extent outside of the occasional captcha bug here and there, but I'm still going to run events and keep this place tidy. I want to commit a substantial amount of time to a few topics:

I know multiple wapnons have been having issues with replying and other aspects of the site. I mainly use arch and firefox, so if you could say
>what the problem is
>operating system
>browser
>extensions that you may think contribute
then I could test accordingly and hopefully fix these issues.

If you can't reply at all then send a message to admin@wapchan.org with your issues.

With all the new users we've gotten recently, it's about time we put out the call for new banners!

Banners should be either 300x100 (3:1) or 300x225 (4:3). I'll also be adding a secondary set of "wide" banners in the same style you may have seen on some other imageboards (468x60), that will be displayed in the same area as the red announcement text.

Additionally, we could use more 88x31 buttons (geocities size), if anyone's good at making those.

SOME NOTES:

Banners/buttons can be sitewide or board specific, but any that highlight aspects of the site culture would be appreciated (we really need some VN inspired banners for instance). If you run/use a net friend site you are free to post wide banners about that site provided they are in good faith.

For editing, I've traditionally used GIMP, but you could even try and design them on the oekaki board!

Sometimes I've found it easier to work at 2-4x the size of the final banners. If you want to do this you can send me it at full size and I can display it at the intended resolution.

If you have the chops for animated banners (gif/webp), that would be greatly appreciated!

However, I noticed a bug of sorts. If you follow a link to the last bump from the main page, it leads to the .org version instead of the .onion. All the other links seem correct.

Not long ago 8chan.moe faced a similar problem. At least, compression bomb was mentioned in the context of tor address dying.

https://8chan.moe/site/res/5423.html#q16390

Not sure if this will be of any use to you, but I figured I'll leave the link to the post anyway. As far as I can tell, they didn't fix it reliably, because their .onion is currently dead too.
