TOUHOU EOSD REMAKE RELEASING ON 9/9!

 No.428

Can anyone here recommend any good Japanese horror films with a supernatural/occult focus or connected to Japanese tradition? I'm looking for more stuff like pic although I'm not into found footage.

Check out Kuwaidan. It’s a classic but more like four mini movie shorts instead of one long film.

somehow ive never seen that poster for noroi. Koji Shiraishi is a genius but almost none of his films are as serious as noroi. that being said, Occult, Shirome, Cult, and the very very silly senritsu kaiki movies are incredible. if youre looking specifically for japanese folk horror, kwaidan, onibaba, kuroneko, and ugetsu are all amazing and beautifully shot, try 1000 youkai too but that ones sillier. aditionally watch ju-on the grudge if you havent already, its incredible

I really like Mermaid in a Manhole, might not be what you're looking for though

Kiyoshi Kurosawa's films are super creepy. Some are from the same era as The Ring, like Cure and Pulse.

Cure technically isn't horror but it's still creepy

Ju-On is great. I didn't think anyone could pull off low budget daylight horror that well. The odd thing is the short run time, the movie and its sequel are barely over an hour long. The ending of the first film feels pretty abrupt.

Kairo is just very unsettling. Its never really conclusive and you don't really see the ending coming.
