So this is the wapchan they all talk about.
What the fuck is so much better about here?
>Not a fan of the new adaptation so far.

>>184It's just because it's slow. There aren't many people posting, so of course it's not gonna be great. How about you actually post a quality opinion on the anime instead of bitching? It'll make this place a whole lot better if you do.

>>184I'd like to say it's better than modern /a/ uy threads due to a few reasons
>Far less bait due to the board being slower >I try to actually ban known spammers and shitposters so discussions are better>Support for sound in webms & 3 files >No captchas>Generally people are more relaxed>Potential for better organized community eventsObviously it's not perfect, but I'd like to imagine this board as being a continuation of the good old days of /lum/ (mid 2020 - mid 2021). The threads then had a lot more OC and analysis and people were just a lot more laid back, but after thronritter (the ran kraut) started spamming threads with his mentally ill rants that turned a lot of people off, and the threads became way more derivative. The reboot made things way worse now with the pro and anti nipple spam, but they already had issues IMO.
>>187I hope so. I've been extremely busy recently so I haven't had a ton of time to dedicate to here besides a few quality of life improvements, but I should have time come november, so trust the process I guess. Hopefully the new uy storytime that I'm gonna start here will help with keeping discussion fresh.

I will be relieved when it's over and (please God) there is no season 2.

It's ass anon, fecking ass.

>>189Yeah, I always enjoyed the mid-late anime style the most (especially UY3's look, which I think is the design peak of the whole series)
>I'm sure you know of him.Sure do. His images have been really useful for my UY videos since they give unique insights into how the series developed and I don't own any of those old japanese magazines.
>>190It's amazing how painfully mediocre to bad it is, especially being adapted from such a strong source. Even the animation is kinda shit, like these classmates in the second episode look rough as fuck, and only the center one even moves. All the rest are just frozen for around 7 seconds, which is super jarring when they're this large on screen. Sure the original wasn't amazing at this either, but they at least had the foresight to not freeze on these shots for so long, and you'd think with the budget and 40 years of inertia they had for this reboot they'd at least put some damn effort into it.

The reboot is winning me over, and I'm not really sure why. Maybe it's all the ass shots
No.199>>200
I really liked episode 6 bros, I was concerned that the pacing might be wack because they were adapting so many chapters, but I think it turned out really well.

What are the odds that we get some original content like another movie or something? Is this series popular enough in Japan for it to happen?
No.206>>207
>>205Even if the new series isn't the most popular thing out there, I'd imagine a lot of people in Japan would check out a new UY movie just because of the cinematic pedigree the old series had.
No.207>>208
>>206Would be nice to get some fresh stuff. In any case it couldn't possibly turn out worse than Lum the Forever.
No.208>>209
>>207I don't even think Lum the Forever was that bad. It was just kinda incoherent.
No.209>>210
>>208That's what makes it bad. If they ever explained what was going on I think it would be quite good. But they just had to cut out the scene that would have explained everything. Imagine if Oshii did that in Beautiful Dreamer and never explained that they were all inside a dream, it would also be a complete mess.
No.210>>211
>>209But does it being a mess make it bad? From a storytelling perspective it's a mess, but maybe it's better to treat it as a bunch of animated skits.
No.211
>>210Maybe, but it's supposed to be a feature film, not a bunch of animated skits. If something fails on a storytelling level, even if its beautifully animated I just can't get into it. The best thing I can say about Lum the Forever is that Melancholy no Kiseki absolutely slaps
No.212>>213

I'm going to say it.
They did Rei's introduction better than the old anime.
But I doubt they'll ever be able to top the old anime again. Only reason I'm able to say this is cause Rei's intro was one of the weaker episodes. Absolutely no way they'll be able to surpass episode 44 of the old show next week.

This is the first episode I just straight up did not like. The second half really really really needed to be a full episode. All the beats were there and I liked the stuff the added with the tree, but it was way too rushed and honestly it sucked. Really hope they can get back on track next week. Credit where credit is due though, Fumi did a really good job in her new role.

No.231
>>229I like the colours too, they make things more visually interesting and really help to enhance the character designs. That's one of DP's strengths I think, being able to utilize colour really well.
No.232>>233
I don't understand how this reboot is so bad. Just by looking at the OP's, it's clear that effort is being put into this show, (the new one in particular is unironically soulful) but I'm finding myself bored more often than not as I actually watch it. All this reboot makes me want to do is watch the original and I don't think that's a good thing.
No.233>>234
>>232It really is the comedy that makes the reboot less interesting to watch (hence why I dropped it by episode 3). I could care less about the animation.
No.234>>235
>>233What specifically do you not like about the comedy? I'm asking cause I don't like it either, even though all the jokes have come from the manga and I find the manga funny
No.235>>236
>>234Honestly I think it's how the comedy translates to animation. It's probably way more funnier read then seen. Hence why the original was so special. It had the comedy of a Rumiko manga mixed with TV pacing which was perfectly timed.
Now because the nu-anime is going off the book, completely it doesn't feel the same. Most of time the comedy feels way to rushed. Timing is key to comedy and the nu-anime (from the 3 episodes I watched) was not funny in the slightest because of that. That's why I dropped it.
Also I forgot to add that the writers don't really have much creative freedom like they did in the original, which makes it less interesting to watch since you're basically watching rehashed stuff from the manga in animated form. While the creative freedom the writers had sometimes pumped out some really shitty episodes, it also pumped out some of the greatest. I would still rather have that creative freedom then going off the book.
No.236>>240
>>235I will say that I found the manga far funnier than even the original anime. I supposed that's because you have control over the comedic timing when you read something, which you lose when you watch a show..

No.244
>>242It was pretty good, but I don't understand why they felt the need to change the ending. They could have preserved the original beauty contest ending and then inserted the original stuff after, we missed out on a nice Ataru/Lum moment when they did that
No.245
I'm probably just echoing what a lot of other anons had to say here - the pacing felt off. That was probably the biggest thing for me.
I also didn't realize how much of the music did the heavy lifting in the original; it's just not the same. The new VA for Lum did pretty well (albeit being a hard miss in earlier episodes I think).
Overall, it felt like an homage or a speed re-telling to the original series
No.612>>613
Like I was saying on discord, the reboot probably should have ended at the first season. I overall enjoyed the first season and felt had a decent variety of stories.
The second season has felt more repetitive with episodes filled with the same gag repeated ad infinitum. Of course, it probably doesn't help that I never really like Ryunnosuke and her father or Ton and Asuka. That may vary to other people but I think most people will agree the story of Ataru, Lum, Shinobu, and Mendo looking at all the alternate futures didn't need to be 3 episodes long.
Second season has just felt like a repetitive drag and reminds me why I always enjoyed Ranma over UY.
No.613
>>612I personally didn't enjoy the first season and couldn't get past the 3rd episode of the reboot. Urusei Yatsura has always been a very repetitive series. Even in the original 81' anime, it felt like the episodes were dragged on for way too long. Felt like a slog to get through at times.
>it probably doesn't help that I never really like Ryunnosuke and her father or Ton and Asuka.Completely understandable. Most people watch it for the main 4 characters, that being Ataru, Lum, Shinobu and Mendo. Most of the other characters were created out of thin air, since Rumiko liked introducing as many characters as she could to keep the story fresh.
>The second season has felt more repetitive with episodes filled with the same gag repeated ad infinitum. This can also be seen in the manga. Some chapters were just a bunch of gags loosely stringed together into a story. Quality varies.
