I believe we are on the brink of facing off against a massive purge of the unofficial Touhou OST uploads.

I have been seeing more and more copyright claims these days.

This Moriya thread: https://moriyashrine.org/threads/touhou-20-osts-possibly-being-removed-from-youtube.2505/

The TOUHOUMUSIC subreddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/TOUHOUMUSIC/

And this site: https://nautilus.nekoweb.org/en/writing/touhou-death/touhou-death

Are so far the best sources of information of what is getting taken down.
I think we can confirm that something very strange is happening with the news that PC98 songs are getting wiped off SoundCloud.
See: https://www.reddit.com/r/TOUHOUMUSIC/comments/1kp6efv/even_pc98_got_copyright_struck_come_on/

All I can say, WTF is happening. I hope the more historic uploads of the OST don't get wiped…

I think you're strongly underestimating the severity of AI incorporation. ZUN could have been convicted of sexual assault or child pornography and the backlash would not be as bad (knowing the average Touhou fan). It represents the cessation of human efforts to tyranny. The cessation of a medium to a handful of corporations that have been antagonistic to all demographics. The cessation of creatives having any ownership of their creations. The cessation of visibility and communication to a deluge of irrelevant drivel after years of already being punished by biased algorithms.

It very strongly affects many people and ZUN sold himself as a cottage little guy, so it represents this entire doujin scene being closed off into an AI only shithole like so many other mediums. What good could come from this? Will conventions have to let in AI spammers? Will Touhou forums have to let in AI spammers? Will contests have to let in AI spammers? Of course! It'd be hypocritical when the king is naked. You take one look at the turdstorm AI spammers have left the areas they're free to reign, and you basically see what ZUN has rewarded the creatives that supported him with.

Frankly there's very little that can invalidate 30 years of work, but destroying every Touhou outlet and a significant portion of the doujin scene for the people who supported you for years would do it.

Anon, I dislike AI as strongly as you do, and my previous post accounts for it, but I do think you are overreacting in a climate ripe for overreaction.
I am glad I am not the only one who thinks AI is a disgrace for art. I have already argued in that other site why I believe that to be the case. But that left aside, I don't think you are actually evaluating the situation.
Touhou 20 is not the product of AI. It still is a creation of ZUN, at least until confirmed otherwise. He did not ask Adobe AI to "make th20 for me lol". He probably has used it in moderation, so maybe 5%, 10%, or 20% tops (I seriously hope not more than that) is the result of AI. ZUN most probably has thought out the story, designed the characters, composed the music and made most if not all of the programming himself, and then cut corners for some of the smaller parts he probably found tedious.
Not that I like it. But getting some help from an AI is not the same as AI generators (I refuse to ever call them artists)'s spawns of the devil that little by little plague the web. He is not welcoming purely AI generated fanart, at least not until he says so himself.
ZUN's opinion on this should also be taken in account. From what I know (and this one I haven't actually heard from him myself, but only read from other anons), ZUN seems to have a rather lenient stance on AI. His boomer glasses reflect to him a similar situation that what must have happened when he was experimenting with computers. Yet he was able to create his oeuvre with them, so for him creators should take advantage of that shiny, new tool to create something original and exciting, like he did in his time. It is clear he didn't choose the AI he used lightly either, since Adobe AI at least advertises itself as "respectful of artists" and only "enhancing their imagination" (you can look up their website).
Now, I think there are more abstract reasons why AI cannot make art, but ZUN probably isn't taking them into account. What I want to say, I guess, is that you can think ZUN has fucked up, but the Internet drama around this, as it tends to happen in imageboards, has sometimes been bombastic, painting ZUN in the bleakest of lights possible, instead of arguing about the reality of the "incident" (if I may say so).

Next time you make an outrage bait "touhou is over" thread for the sixth? seventh? time, please bother to spell check your subject…
Hard to not see this as anything more than concern trolling.

>>1403
I can see why it's so contentious. Youtube has been the primary gateway for westerners to get into Touhou for as long as it existed on the platform. How many times have you seen it said where one's first exposure was a video of Night of Nights, UN Owen Was Her, and Bad Apple? It's ingrained in fandom culture, such that Ruw doing his thing to make way for the official OST to be published to youtube music feels like a stab in the back to the fans who paved the way here.
The main issue comes from the complacency of both sides. The western fandom has been allowed to by and large do as it pleased for twenty years since the guidelines on fancontent have been left greatly unenforced. Touhou has always been this mystical thing in the west as ZUN never had any presence there to claim it, but at a glacial pace he's moving onto large platforms such as Steam and now Youtube. If I hazard a guess I'd say music rips will be taken down in waves as more and more of the music makes its way there officially.
>I could see if this affected gameplay videos
The danger to that is from Youtube's end with their hit and miss detection programs. Since the OST for 19-20 is on Youtube by the actual owners of the music, Youtube's system can trigger copyright automatically, such as the case with mtb's enoko video. We'll have to see how it all shakes out in the long run.
>but people don't use youtube as their primary way of listening to music, do they?
You'd be surprised at the amount of norms who do this. I used to do this before I realized I could just download ZUN's entire collection to my phone and let a local music player app handle it. Music discovery is another factor which Youtube is good for overall, which feeds back into the earlier point as a gateway into Touhou.

 No.1983

I'm bumping this thread. Forgive me, I'm old and late.

I figured there would be a crack down on the free sharing of OSTs and songs after Touhou Spell Bubble came out. If you don't know they were selling DLC packs of 15+ year old fan songs for a lot of money. Buying them all required dumping $1k+ USD into the game. Last I checked anyway they've probably churned out more DLC packs since then. The entire game is based upon the music (tempo/bpm controls difficulty and makes each 'stage' unique). I was honestly shocked at how much they were expecting people to pay to play it online legit with other people. Which is why I ended up pirating it and will probably never be able to afford to have the game legit. I wanted to support ZUN and the other creators but there is no way I could justify dropping that much money on the game. I was already going to have to buy a console I didn't own for it as well. So all-in it would have cost me upwards to $1.5k-$2k to play that game.

As far as I've seen the game is 'dead' in the tournament scene as well. So one of the primary reasons I wanted it no longer exists. Yet they still refuse to reduce the price of the content. The base game comes with almost nothing. You even have to beat the story mode to hear/play Bad Apple stage.

This is what happens when you "go legit" like 2hu has in the west (and east I assume, do they even use steam over there?). It isn't just ZUN you have to worry about with the greed. It's every single circle with a backlog that now has a way to turn that backlog into cold hard cash. People must be buying this stuff because otherwise I wouldn't see it up for sale every time I log-in to steam (which isn't often). Lots of people that have never played a 2hu game before are getting into it through those games being listed in the store fronts. They aren't like long time fans that played the shumps and listened to music for the last two decades. They do not even know most of that stuff exists until they search for 2hu on some place like youtube. So it is not surprising people have started to claim copyrights to drive people to their own official uploads of the songs.

I have personally maintained a channel on youtube that uploads full albums for a long time. I rarely check it these days unless I decide to upload something from the backlog. Since it was mostly focused on uploading rarer albums from people that have moved on to Gensokyo. I just checked that channel for the first tPost too long. Click here to view the full text.

I like it overall, very silly and chaotic, but often the game does feel like it's playing itself. The game at least does have interactivity with Heart Attacks, Wahahahas, and Specials, but timing the Specials becomes pretty much impossible as soon as Hisao reaches a certain speed, unless he hits certain characters that briefly slow down the game. feels like it boils down to a lot of luck. it's addicting trying to reach a certain distance though

that Youmu vs Patchy/Yuyu has to be some of the most intense 250ms dodging i can remember, that was straight out of a mainline game. would have been incredible if we hadn't jobbed at the end
>In the end, should we wait for fourth player to appear and play it again in future, or it's one-timer for lols?
maybe we can try tomorrow since there's probably gonna be more people at the tourney. would be cool if someone in a more convenient location could host too. also is there really no option to lower the resolution on parsec? bandwidth definitely seemed to be the issue, so if there was a way to optimize that i think the game should run seamlessly
anyways, thanks for hosting

>>2934
>I may be tripping but the stream seemed laggier on some stages than others
yeah definitely, it was very apparent since there were absolutely no issues at all while we were hanging in the menus but as soon as shit started flying all over the screen the stutter would begin. if it was a connection problem we'd have frame drops at any time, so i'm guessing it's only happening because all the special effects are too much for the stream to handle currently

 No.2936

>>2934
> I may be tripping but the stream seemed laggier on some stages than others. May be good to try stages with less detailed backgrounds or without weather effects (SDM Foyer, Iku's stage?) At least something without foliage.
This theory have chances to be true. I'm not expert in video encoding, but I think fast and major picture colour changes raise bitrate (probably) and 2K stream stops fitting into 25mbps per player bandwidth causing framedrops. If that's true then less detailed stages and characters with less bullethell will improve our situation. And getting fourth player will worsen it as bandwidth be 17mbps per player…
>>2935
> also is there really no option to lower the resolution on parsec?
It is set to "use client resolution" so I think you're supposed to get stream with resolution of your screen and not 2K, but I'm not sure if it did work like that. I'll try lowering my screen's resolution next time and see how better it will play.

Almost forgot, here's the mod itself. It needs latest soku2 to be installed to work too. There also came tagfigher soku mod that I haven't tested yet, but it allow to pick two characters and switch them during the fight. Though it also is marked as 4P so I'm not entirely sure if that's all to it.

Nevermind, after digging around some more, I found even older 2hu fan content. First pic was made 8 days before the release of EoSD promoting its launch. You can check out this archived japanese fan page here: https://web.archive.org/web/20020803184126/http://nightlights.atarashi.com/zun/
This website also featured arrangements of the PC-98 game soundtracks, a really rare PC-98 era Touhou fan site.

There's also the second picture which I found at an archived Japanese imageboard thread dating back to August 24, 2002, if anyone is curious about it as well, you can read it here: https://web.archive.org/web/20021005182251fw_/http://merkmal-2nd.hp.infoseek.co.jp/allroom.html

Not really art related but on a sidenote, I also found an archive of this fan website that featured a MIDI arrangement of Shinki's theme song that was released in 2000 but made in 1999 https://web.archive.org/web/20001030145224/http://www2.plala.or.jp:80/joter/midi.htm

Hello.

I will host a game of Marathon Phoenix with Touhou sprites Saturday, June 28th at 5:00 EST. This is similar to the DOOM co-op games if you ever played that. Though, this can only accommodate 8 players total ingame, unlike modern net DOOM.

Download here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/12_s9gEJswHvyRtnX17GaNFwgonWnoPq2/view?usp=sharing
Please note this is slightly new version. This has hosted for 4/jp/ a couple years back, so if you have that please use this new version.

This is an old game with an old engine so a few things are needed to be done before joining for the best experience. A lot of these settings cannot be changed while ingame:
- Run Aleph One.exe and select Preferences>Player. Change your name here and choose a color if you like. I recommend checking the box "Show crosshairs". Default Marathon never had one, but this scenario plays a bit better with it on.
- Back within Preferences, in "Graphics" select the following options: Make sure that "Overlay map" is checked on. Select "Rendering Options".
- Within Rendering Options select "Advanced". Make sure texture filtering for "Walls, Landscapes, and Sprites" are set to "none" for near.
- Within "Graphics" There should be 2 different HUD styles, in the section "HUD Plugin". I recommend "Enhanced HUD" as that has a correctly aligned crosshair. Change the setting "HUD Size" to make it fit; "Largest" should work. This somewhat dependent on your resolution. You can change the resolution in game with F1 and F2 keys.

- IMPORTANT!: Back within Preferences, go to "Controls" and UNCHECK the option "Auto re-center view". Mouse feel should be set to modern. Select "Mouse Advanced" and change to your preference. I like sensitivity about 0.050 or less for X and Y. Then use higher mouse DPI values to compensate for a smoother mouse look. "Raw Input Mode" checked as well. Back within "Controls", select "Move" tab on the top and set "Run/Swim Behavior" to "Always Run Hold to Swim" . Look over the rest of the keybindings within "Controls" and change to preference. By default, "Tab" is the interact key, and the key to respawn when dead. "\" key to chat while ingame.
