Tuned in to Retro Anime / Manga!

I don't like these Gen labels that have become a fad online and in the media. Generations aren't clearly distinguished. If you grew up in a poor family in Manila in the 2000s, you would have interacted with 90s media and technology. Americans who grew up in the 90s talk about it as a nostalgic golden age, but their Japanese peers had completely different experiences. People born between two arbitrary dates on the timeline don't share the same traits or experiences at all. These Gen labels become a cluster of arbitrary stereotypes turned into essences and there's a lot of lazy shit talking about them. And so what if people embrace anime and manga put out before they were born? We all consume media that came before our time or we watch stuff that wasn't available or we didn't know about when it aired. There's a lot of fun in finding stuff you missed or weren't around for.

The online retro fad among late teens and 20 something year olds is a different story entirely, but this retro fad behavior isn't limited to one age group really. I do sometimes feel a bit annoyed at the influx of new fans for an older series but I don't really think that has anything to do with generation or age cohorts.

I will also add that a poser isn't defined by their age or culture, but by their lack of understanding. Ask a suspect what "on ones" means, see what they answer.

That lady specifically is a huge attention seeker, and is just using 90s media as a method for that. It's not that she's lying, she is probably kinda into it, but she gets a huge boost in popularity by playing this up.

We humans can't know everything. Even when it comes to things we like, there are always stuff we don't know about so lack of knowledge can't make a poser. Let's look at OP's pic. The PS2 and collectibles are only in one portion of the photo. The majority of the image is taken up by her, she's flashing the retro stuff while highlighting her body. The retro stuff isn't the center of attention, she is. Its not "look at this cool thing" but "look at what I have I'm a really cool person." This is like modern instagram photography where the scenery is the backdrop and the person taking the selfie is the center of the image. Its not a photo of a mountain, but a photo of yourself with the mountain as a backdrop. The ego takes center stage and the PS2, games, shirt etc. are just there to pad out the ego, to signal an identity. These types of people don't actually care about enjoying the game, but retro stuff is just a away they can build an identity, a brand, and signal that to others for brownie points. The PS2 and game is only an instrument to build an ego. People like this tend to drop their interests after a couple years and move onto the next fad because they never cared about the hobby to begin with.

A specific person bragging about their collection has nothing to do with the method. If "this type of person" also understands what "on ones" means, the whole poser theory crumbles regardless of whether they want to be popular or not. In fact, even if they go and look up the answer to a question like that online without knowing it beforehand, they might convert into a true connoisseur in the process.

Not even touching on nostalgia some people like to hear what they are watching, not everyone is a zoomie that likes to keep the subtitles on even with dubbed material because you can barely hear it. I dont blame you tho since its whoever hired helen keller to do the audio mixing on all your modern high resolution releases.
If all you care about is the resolution the media is in you already missed half of it.

I guess some people are just attached to them? Personally I found them tedious to use. VHS has become a novelty but yeah there is a weird fad around them where people for some reason think VHS is better. The only real advantage it has is that tape is much better for preservation than other mediums. I do think there is some joy in watching VHS tapes you owned as a kid but obviously not regularly. They are still clunky and annoying to use.

As an oomie myself I'll say thst the low quality has an aethetic value that's impossible to recreate digitally. As does the very act of inserting the tape and pressing the play button. It's not about quality, it's about the experience. Like prefering the inconvenience of a manual car or a paper book. The experience of physical and especially analog media ia just different and it's enjoyable.

That is understandable and it's probably a nice novelty for those who have not grown up with it. Personally the only reason i care about physical media at this point is being able to lend it to friends/family.

Vhs isnt the best medium for preservation since it does kind of degrade on use, i notice colors and light effects heavily faded on older cassettes i own in comparison to other media releases of the same content, but it has the best preservation variety of media by far.

People go back because they don't want shit. They want good. Young and not young people do this. New creators want to go back too (retro graphics are returning because of this). This is not the first time this happens in history. In general I think is positive. Anyone who endures through the problems of watching anything old is probably going to appreciate it more.
