I've noticed most retro anime fans tend to either be emo "underground" junkies or gun obsessed weirdos, which category would you say you fall in?

Emo underground gun obsessed weirdo junkie

 No.3929

how did you lot get started on drugs?

 No.3943

I'm not pessimistic enough to be emo and I don't really do substances, I'm more of a sad nerd that likes old people crap.

 No.4010

Never heard of or seen the "emo underground junkies" you speak of. But guns are cool.

 No.4046

I'm more of a guy who wants the quality of the eras
Modern anime is almost too clean for me. Lacks that grit and effort.

"Gun obsessed weirdo" describes me perfectly. My introduction to imageboards were the /ak/ threads on /k/, which heavily influenced the first anime that I really got into.

 No.4184

too broke for guns, too scared of drugs to be a junkie, but I drink so I guess in the end it all wraps up

 No.4255

None, really. I just think retro anime is cool overall!

 No.4256

Where's the cute romance shoujo lover option?

 No.4260

Have you watched Atashin'chi? I enjoy it so far too even though it's a long series

 No.4264

I'm in my mid-30s, so not quite old enough to have been an adult when these shows were popular, but not young enough to be a Gen Zer who is into retro anime since it's an exotic underground thing for them.

I watched Toonami as a kid and wanted to find more shows like that. Older anime fans would consider that kiddie, but younger ones would say I grew up with anime in an oldschool way.

 No.4281

I am deeply involved in diy hardcore/punk so i guess the first

I am an emo gun obsessed weirdo and I'll have to ask that you cease spying on me.

Neither, although I used to listen to «underground» emo music at some point.

In my experience, most of the retro anime fans I have known in real life that like old series are in their forties or fifties and they are from all walks of life. The first generation likes or mentions Heidi or Mazinger Z, it doesn't really come as a surprise. Manga didn't really get translated in most countries until the late 80s.

There are probably more young retro fans than ever since series like Ideon or Ashita no Joe have been translated and I have seen many have those two as favourites, but if you want to discuss them with Japanese fans you will eventually notice the majority are literal sixty year olds. Makes you wonder, how old is Wapchan's userbase?

 No.4290

Anyone who loves something will be interested in the history of that thing. If you like animation, you will love to watch all the classics from the past, read about their history, how they were made, what influenced them. Its the same with baseball, movies, photography, any other interest. You like it for its own sake.

If you like something purely to come off as “underground” or “retro” you are pretty shallow. So called Gen Z is all about style over substance. There is nothing “underground” about people today. They are the most passive, complacent, narcissistic generation. A bunch of shallow uncritical do nothings who are into old stuff because they think it makes them look cool and intelligent to other online idiots.
