I'm very happy that Slayers isn't episodic and has an overarching story, not that I would've found the episodic nature to be bad, but I was honestly getting tired of episodic shows from the few I've been watching this year. So far, it's hard to really gauge how much I like it. I enjoyed it at the start, found myself laughing at jokes and enjoying the character dynamics and the journey they were having, but the past few episodes (I'm on Episode 10 right now) have struggled to keep my attention. I'm not sure if I'm just bad at focusing right now or if it's not as good as I first though, but I do hope it improves a bit. Character wise, I enjoy Lina and Gowry, but do sort of wish there were more people in their party. Zell has been a decent addition but it still feels as if everyone isn't really interacting as much as they could. I'm sure it'll get better as I watch it though, hell I've got like 5 seasons and 10 movies left to get into the world. I'm also quite surprised how the dub has been pretty accurate to the sub, the "Can you make me a Cheeseburger" line came out of nowhere and was NOT in the original script, but it made me laugh so I'll forgive it and so far that's been the only significant change I've heard so far. I'm surprised a lot of the "time of the month" stuff was kept in, guess they didn't have a reason to not dub it. The quality of the bluray is dreadful though, I'm not sure how this happened but it really does look bad. From what I gather these are based off the Spanish DVD's or something? Hell, I'd take 480p over upscaled 480p but I guess it's not *all* bad. I'm hoping it does improve a bit, I'm enjoyed it but not as much as I thought I would. Perhaps the slow nature of the first season is setting everything up for later on, or perhaps I'll just have to get into the groove for it. Either way, I'll get through the whole thing over the coming months and post my thoughts here whenever possible.

Maybe it's the episodic nature of it, maybe it's the storytelling? I don't know, but I probably wouldn't recommend this to anyone else beyond the Ambrosian Days episodes. Yet people like Bolt know first hand that desire is a type of ignorance that only leads to more desire and so on. And this is shown through all the recurring characters whose desire either leads them to suffering or a point at which they only desire more. Bolt helps people achieve their goals, but it is often implied that nothing he does really helps anyone face reality. In one of the last 98 episodes he gives the robots back their memories and lets them continue living on believing they are human. This implies that Bolt does not save anyone, he merely lets them live in their own fantasies, or dreams. I believe this is partly why the program in the episode where the little girl dies says that Bolt is the only one who gets her. Because just as the programs keeps people in a dream Bolt lets others live their own dream. And why when he fails to save the little girl he renounces his title as a mercenary when he failed to keep the little girl in her dream. In the final episode of 97 Bolt is forced to take down the ship that is the dreams of many. The flying ship is comparable to the titanic which was known as the unsinkable ship. In fact the flying ship in Bolt is even explained to be able to keep afloat because of the people who believe in it. The psychocrystal that is its engine is said to feed off of the mental energy that is produced by those who believe in it. Even those who went to destroy it went because they were following their dream of destroying it, which only fed the crystal and explains why no one, but Bolt, a mercenary and master of dreams could destroy it. However by destroying the floating ship Bolt contradicts his own role by destroying the dreams of many, in order so that that one girl can achieve her own dream. And yet the captain explains that it is sometimes necessary the goal which one set at the beginning. Indeed this is true as whenever Bolt gives one person their dream he breaks the dream of another. And in this way Bolt is both the doctor program that keeps people in their dreams and Death who takes people back to reality. This all relates back to the nihilism of the anime as it basically states that reality itself is just a false dream controlled by forces, like Bolt, which make or break dreams, as they see fit. Beings like Bolt understand the meaninglessness of life which is why they are free to wander without being tied down by any of the dreams that others are tied down by. In this sense Bolt only exists for others which is why he himself seems empty.

Honestly I'm surprised Minipato never went anywhere. It's rather charming and I could have seen it being more than just three theatrical shorts. I get that the series was pretty done by this point but it would have been nice if each character had gotten to narrate their own episode.

Not that anon, but the only source I can find is from the Tylor wiki which states that, however I've seen both and there are quite a decent amount of comparisons you can make for both, plus Tylor's light novel came out 2 years after LOGH's ended. Copying what I said from another thread: Tylor is meant to be like Yang, albeit, a hell of a lot more easy going and downright lucky. Working for the "United Planets Space Force" and pretty much joining it for reasons that aren't relating to wanting to fight in battles but being exceptional in the battles he fights. Leading the people around him having no idea if it's dumb luck or incredible genius he plays off as dumb luck. Whereas his main rival opponent is Ru Baraba Dom who is a commander in the Raalgon empire, has long hair, is pretty damn serious a majority of the time and sees Tylor as someone who is incredibly powerful and someone he needs to defeat for the empire to win the fight against the UPSF. (It's been a while since I watched it, I can't fully remember the Raalgon empire's background)

In the first or second episode of Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ there's a scene where a female character faints as part of a gag. I've always enjoyed seeing this happen in live action movies, this is the first time I've gotten the same enjoyment from an anime. This particular scene has no bearing on the plot, we never see this character before or after, and we never even learn her name. I have trouble finding references to this scene online and as far as I can tell this is the only time a woman faints in the entire Gundam franchise. Are there any anime with similar scenes, preferably involving named characters with more relevance to the plot?

While I don't think Trigun is bad by any means, I do wonder how I feel about it these days, since I last watched it around 7 years ago and this was when I was just really getting into anime (had only seen around 50 shows prior) and thought it was really fucking cool and had some really interesting episodes and fun action.
