How do you think we're gonna get more traffic around here?
We just gotta share it around, pre-2000s threads on /a/ seem to be the best place for it so far. I imagine current users just need to keep up posting in general, even for small random things like updates on what you're watching and reviews of things. People don't stay around if there's no activity but if there's something to talk about, people will wanna stay and chat.
Spreading around the word of Wapchan obviously, users don't spawn out of void. Such things like getting more traffic take time so both staff and users should be patient about it as well
I found this site through /kind/
>>448 I hope more do as well, you folks are the best.
I think I heard about you guys on /v/ or /vr/, I can't remember which. This place is really nice even though I don't watch a lot of anime. Whoever does the 24/7 stream is cool since that's how I've been catching up on UY.
By finding some more affiliates that aren't cancerous.
>>451 You have any suggestions?
>>442 /M/ user here, You’ll probably get some traffic from users that got temporary bans on the main site, take me for instance I just got an unfair 3 day ban for some greentext post on /v/ I never made, and I almost never browse that board unless it’s some game event. Mods be mods I guess
(278.33 KB 1440x1080 mpv-shot0087.jpg)
>>540 >attract people who get banned Based, can't wait for wapchan to be full of shitposters! Joking aside, if the mods do go out of control on 4chinpo this place could see a lot more traffic which is both a good and bad thing. I'll try and share it round more when given the chance just to let more people know about it, although I'm weary of /v/ nostalgia threads for posting since it's /v/ but might give it a shot if one comes around. >I just got an unfair 3 day ban for some greentext post on /v/ I never made, and I almost never browse that board unless it’s some game event. Mods be mods I guess Do you have a dynamic IP? I remember a few years ago I reset my router and tried to post and noticed I was somehow banned for posting CP back in 2018 and had a mini heart attack because I never did that shit. Then I remembered I had a dynamic IP and just reset the router again and was fine. First and only time that's happened to me, but still a good thing to remember.
>>544 No clue but it’s supposedly happened to other users before, never was banned for it before but was warned awhile ago before. Also I’d hold off on /v/ nostalgia, /vr/ is a thing and once they started allowing 2000 era games the quality sort of went down a bit but it’s still not nearly as bad. Also here’s some manabe stuff man I wish outlanders got another OVA, his stuff is underrated these days despite being prominent amongst American otaku during the early years

>>545 >Also I’d hold off on /v/ nostalgia Yeah, it was just something that came to mind that even I was weary about. Just shooting off ideas anyhow. >/vr/ is a thing and once they started allowing 2000 era games the quality sort of went down a bit but it’s still not nearly as bad Hah, don't have to tell me twice. I predicted that shit back when people were begging for it after Dreamcast got it (well, more around 2017/18 when the decline of 4chan was much more apparent) since all the reasoning for people wanting it on /vr/ was "I don't want to talk about it on /v/" which just made me think they were underb& (or close to) wanting to talk about their childhood on /vr/ instead of retro games, and thus bring the overall quality of the board down, which they did. I've sent this place to a few friends I know online who are into retro anime/vidya, but I doubt they've even looked at it much since they're not big channers so an altchan probably wouldn't be that interesting to them. >Also here’s some manabe stuff man Thanks. Never heard of him before but Outlanders sounds like a cool OVA, will give it a watch/read when I get the time. In return, have an OVA that is basically Terminator, really liked it when I watched it even if it's really slow for the first half.
>>547 Wait, you mean to tell me you’ve a retro anime/manga fan and never heard of the works of joji manabe? Anyway his works were popular enough that dark horse comics distributed them a long time ago, karivan kid should’ve had an ova as well
>>550 >joji manabe He made ginga sengoku rai which aired in my country in arabic. anyway most of us are zoomers that bandwaggon on the old anime train to look cool and even the most obssessed anime fans nowadays barely know the name of anime creators

just gonna give some replies >>540 not surprised, mod quality has gone down there. all /m/ bros are welcome (though id like to have this board not be seen as just a "side site", that's understandably difficult but something im slowing working towards) >>544 the site itself can definitely handle a high amount of traffic, even with no cdn (a deliberate choice, seeing all the cloudflarr issues recently) the bigger issue of course is moderation on here, since im not always available to clean up spam and whatnot, but if we can get a few more reliable staff members who care enough to keep this place tidy, i think it'll work out fine. best method at least for me to change my dynamic ip is to set a fake mac address on my router >>545 i know /v/ is a mess (never really went there much myself except for the occasional /v/an) but i have no issues with hosting /v/ or /vr/ content though id might want to do something slightly different since im trying to keep the board ideas themselves mostly original. a lot of old otaku favorites seem to be pretty underrated these days becides a few that have stuck in the public consciousness to this day (lupin, UY, etc), which is kinda what /ar/ is all about, giving more attention to these kinds of works >>547 >not big channers that's something im trying to work on, making this place more normie friendly without it being at the expense of the imageboard format. if anyone has ideas on how that could be achieved that would be much appreciated, im working on personal projects that would link back to this site but at the end of the day (i've said this before) i want this place to feel like a mostly anonymous forum rather than the usual imageboard. >>550 ive heard of him but haven't read/seen any of his works. what would be a good starting point? >>551 i think it's tough for a lot of people these days to be subtle about what they like when it comes to anime imo, but that's something i have to work on myself since im pretty much in the other extreme where i know a lot about older anime but never really talk about it even to people i know who like anime because they just talk about seasonal stuff i haven't seen. probably should watch some newer stuff myself just to get a better perspective. maybe buy a few more /ar/core shirts even if pretty much no one would recognize them (have some bootleg lum shirts i got off redbubble a while back) tldr: appreciate the feedback and suggestions. keep spreading the word since that's how we're gonna make this place thrive. happy summer!
>>540 /m/ is fine in my opinion. It's really the only media board that isn't infested with shitposters and /pol/tards. However, I also agree with ranchan that mod quality has dropped for pretty much all of 4chan.

>>550 >Wait, you mean to tell me you’ve a retro anime/manga fan and never heard of the works of joji manabe? Personally, I'm bad with names and remember only a few that I really like, but I actually haven't heard of Manabe despite knowing a few of his works now that I look them up. It happens I guess. I can sometimes name a bunch work by the same creator but can't name the creator since I really don't remember them much. >>552 >(though id like to have this board not be seen as just a "side site", that's understandably difficult but something im slowing working towards) Once there's a lot more traffic, I imagine people would be willing to stay here to discuss things more and more. I always keep a tab open and refresh this site around 5-10 times a day if possible for any posts. To me, even 4chan has side boards that I'll browse and post on and then come back to in a day or two to check up on because the board is so slow. If we had around 20-30 posts a day or something, I imagine people would wanna use the site a lot more, just need to wait for more users. >that's something im trying to work on, making this place more normie friendly without it being at the expense of the imageboard format Will be difficult, but I imagine if people figure out the general feel of the board they'll either adapt or leave. I doubt people would wanna shit up a slow board like this and like minded people will want to come here, so so far it's been going great, just slow. More people will mean more shitposting and dumbass opinions, but I think we can live with it if the majority remain levelheaded. >i have to work on myself since im pretty much in the other extreme where i know a lot about older anime but never really talk about it even to people i know who like anime because they just talk about seasonal stuff i haven't seen. probably should watch some newer stuff myself just to get a better perspective. Yeah, I'm in the same boat. I watch a bunch of older show but barely watch currently airing stuff and if I do it's always somehow the things that aren't that popular and are things I read the synopsis of thought were funny or interesting. Although, this season all I've watched are Tomodatchi Game and soon Paripi Koumei which I believe are relatively popular. >keep spreading the word since that's how we're gonna make this place thrive. Already posted in a /vr/ thread to help out a bit, hopefully there might be some anon's who'll find it interesting and not report me for advertising ;_;

>>551 He draws awesome Maetel/Emeraldas fanart these days
Hello everyone, I'm from 4 /vr/ and I have to say I love this site so far. >rule 3 Thank you so much for this, I'm so tired of this crap. All I want is having fun while talking about nerd / wap stuff with my fellow anons. As for advertising this site on 4chan, I suggest doing so only in a few selected threads and NOT to post on /v/ at all. Like others mentioned already, even /vr/ turned to shit, but /v/ is on a completely different lvl, shitposter wise, you don't want these guys here. Don't force things, give it some time. Help the site grow by making quality threads and posts.
>>557 Oh cool, glad my post on /vr/ was able to grab the attention of a poster or two. Hope you enjoy it, anon. I should really try and post in some threads every day just to keep activity going.

>>557 Shame to hear /vr/ is dogshit now. I love talking about games, but that just isn't a thing on 4chan anymore.
>>565 Introducing 6th gen was a mistake, my friend.
Simply by mentioning it more in other places. There are many people fed up with 4chan and other imageboards quality as of late, looking for a place exactly like this. We spread knowledge of its existence, we gain more users, simple.
I think we should try to post a bit more as well, going one day without activity of any kind (beyond a spambot) makes this place feel a little dull. If we had like 3-5 posts per day it could bring some more activity here, we usually get one from what I see. I try to post as well but also try to create longer posts that usually take some time and can only spare a few minutes a day right now.
>>587 You have to keep the right balance though. Less posts but good quality => can make the board seem dead. More posts but less quality => makes the board look like shit Like, I could comment on things I don't know much about, but that doesn't help anyone. I personally expected /clv/ to be more active though, considering the retro rule doesn't apply there and you can talk about whatever.
>>589 I guess, although I doubt a post or three a day would really hurt the quality of the board if they're around two sentences on the given subject. >I personally expected /clv/ to be more active though, considering the retro rule doesn't apply there and you can talk about whatever. Yeah, I was thinking of making a thread there just to ask what all the anon's are doing in their lives but never got around to it. Should probably do it today with random updates on my own life.
>>585 Pretty much this. >>589 I think it would be a long way to go before the board looks like shit. There's probably a lot of topics on here many people don't know much about, but even just giving their two cents may invite them to learn more about it. I should probably clarify the state of the boards more, since there isn't really a "retro rule", just general guidelines for 3 of the boards (for example modern content that is retro styled is allowed). I might eventually make more non retro boards for subjects like tech, music, games, and OC, since the current selection is somewhat limiting.
>>592 > I might eventually make more non retro boards for subjects like tech, music, games, and OC, since the current selection is somewhat limiting. I came from /vr/ so I would like a games board, but I'm not seeing enough demand to justify it as of now.

>mfw waiting for new posts
>>596 Things around here seem to get randomly fast and then slow. I've been working on making high quality retro related content for youtube partially to get more activity around here. One thing that's nice is that becides the spam bots, there's not many "low quality" posts here.
>>597 Speaking of the spambots, is there a way to add some kind of filter that could delete and ban anyone who tries to post with their name and subject matter being the same thing? It's the most common form of spambot post from what I see.

>>540 Hello this is /m/ anon again, I got banned AGAIN for another post I never made this time from /vg/ and I didn’t even go in that board. I don’t understand why this is a thing, I just want to have some discussion but that’s fine a 3 day break from that site is fair.
>>621 >I got banned AGAIN for another post I never made this time from /vg/ It's probably someone in your IP range. Used to happen to me all the time with a previous ISP I had, I'd get someone else's /vg/ shitposts and even an /a/ rangeban that weren't mine.
>>622 It’s fine, again it’s always alright to take breaks from the site here and there
>>621 4chan is no fun allowed now. I came here because I’m annoyed of /a/ being only generals and soyjak spam. I got banned for off topic when I made a discussion about anime a couple times too, mods there are insane.
>>634 /a/ was never good.
>>637 Yes it was

Just wanted to point something out with all the discussion on cloudflare: >This site has never used a CDN >This site will probably never use a CDN When anyone comes here, they're always connecting directly to the server, not getting routed through regional nodes or anything. You can check this with curl. I value this sites independence.
>>639 I see, also 4chan is safe anyway as it handles these situations incredibly well, also kiwifarms deserved it anyway, fuck that wretched hive of scum and villainy, should’ve been shut down years ago

>How do you think we're gonna get more traffic around here? -Allow a Hentai board -All images on the board are automatically spoilered -Posting an image of a real person, regardless if its pornographic or not, results in a temp ban
>>641 >-All images on the board are automatically spoilered Sounds like a disaster. Just keeping the images from being shown on the home page would be fine, otherwise it's like playing russian roulette with giant futa cocks instead of a revolver.
>>642 Lewds bring in views The idea isn't ideal but at least more people would visit and post, hopefully they'd migrate and post on the other boards as well The biggest issue would be bad actors who'd want to hurt the site and not follow the rules hence why I suggested the third line
>>643 >Lewds bring in views Do they? I've never really bothered with porn boards myself. I might use it if one was made though. >hence why I suggested the third line I think the third line is pretty good for any anime-centric board. Though maybe taking it easy with the temp bans, only handing them out if it's just a one off poster or a persistent sperg. Simply deleting should be fine for the most part.
>>643 I agree with >>644 that I don't think they really bring as many views as you'd think. 4chan's porn boards don't seem any more popular than any other board, and even if they do bring more people I don't think they'd be the type of people we would want here. I'd be fine with spoilered NSFW stuff that's relevant to discussion of a retro anime/manga, but a porn board would be a bad idea. There's plenty of sites for that stuff already.
>>641 I'm gonna be honest - I have no desire to make a hentai board. I don't really want to heavily associate this site with degen esque stuff, and trying to moderate that with the tiny staff we have would be a nightmare. As >>646 said, there are many other sites more than willing to host that sort of content. The spoilered NSFW policy has served us well, and there's no need to change it. >Lewds bring in views They probably do, but i'd rather have more high quality discussion threads than literal circlejerks.
>>647 Absolutely , and we all know the fate of every altchan that ends up making a hentai board, it all goes downhill very quickly and I’m glad you’re not caving in and making the same mistakes from happening
I would post more if others did so too. Felt like a schizo talking to myself on /clv/ lol
>>649 Honestly, I agree. I feel most users should at the very least give this place one post a day, make it seem like there's a decent amount of posting around here. I feel wapchan might suffer from a limit of things to talk about as time goes on, but it's really hard to say. It's still pretty small and /vr/ doesn't have this problem but at the same time they introduced 5th and 6th gen into their board over the years (well one day for 5th gen) so who knows if they would've reached that point.
(122.12 KB 1024x878 20220906_081641.jpg)
>>650 The board topics here are pretty niche for the most part. We'll probably add a more general board or two in the near future (probably a /tech/ board and something else media related, possibly /cor/), since many of the board suggestions in the past have been too niche (im not against them, i just dont know if something like /2hu/ actually has enough interest to not just become a ghost town, actually planning on making some videos myself on those games so we'll see) I know there hasn't been a lot of updates here recently, so I'll try to setup something to get some community feedback in the next few weeks.
>>651 If you make another poll I suggest including a retro game board as I saw some gaming related posts and know that some anons post on 4/vr/
>>652 I'll be interested in this too as I tend to gravitate more towards older video games.
I just found out about this website the other day from a CRT thread on /g/, It seems like the best way to increase poster count is by spreading word to other image boards that share interests with this one. Though I'm sure that has already bee mentioned in this thread.
>>442 This is probably just a me thing, but the text style and the all black backgrounds are kind of hard on my eyes. I find regular 4chan easier to look at and it's one of the reasons I only pop in once in a while. I have no idea if that would help overall though.
>>660 There are other themes. Click the box with Wapfriends, and you'll see your options.
>>660 >>661 I realized this wasn't very obvious, so I added "style" next to it.
>>661 >>663 That's more spoon feeding than I deserve. Thanks.
>>442 Maybe a board for discussing tv shows and movies pre-2010/00 will help?
(41.11 KB 640x480 otp.jpg)
>>707 Maybe? Honestly the most common thing I see about people being turned off around here is them seeing really old threads, so I'm thinking about giving some of the boards lower bump/time limits. However I've also seen a lot of "there's not enough people there to be worth posting there" which isn't really helpful... Maybe I should organize an IRC/stream event so we can discuss this more.
>>708 > so I'm thinking about giving some of the boards lower bump/time limits. what's the current bump limit? is there any limit to the number of threads possible in a single board? I assumes it's the same for every board. Also, why isn't time and date of posting shown like other chans?
>>708 > I see about people being turned off around here is them seeing really old threads Don't do this you are not fixing any problem just making it worse. There's no reason to push threads that still had potential for a dicsussion to an archive. People are not put off by old threads but rather by inactivity.
>>709 >what's the current bump limit? 500 >is there any limit to the number of threads possible in a single board? Currently not really (it's also set at 500) >Also, why isn't time and date of posting shown like other chans? This was a holdover from the old mobile theme of the site. I changed the CSS to show the full date always, so you might have to force refresh. >>710 >People are not put off by old threads but rather by inactivity. I know... It's just tough because people have been asking about how we're gonna get more users for a while now, so idk what to do really besides wait and maybe do some more cytube streams of old anime like we did in the past.
>>711 All I am saying is that haphazrd solutions like sending a thread with 20 posts to an archive don't address the issue and may do more harm than good. I have no solution to the inactivity problem but I know that definitely isn't it.
I didn't come here for a while, like 1-2 months, as I was busy. I don't know what to say, not sure if there is a solution for this problem. Most people are tired of the shitty moderation on 4chan, so you would think "altchans" would thrive, but they don't. When I was looking for sites where I could discuss video games in a reasonable manner, I found many dead forums, like threads about new releases getting 1-2 posts a week. People don't want that, they go to the sites where they get a hundred replies on the same day at the cost of having hordes of idiots posting there, like 4chan, Twitter and Reddit etc. if you press f5 and there isn't a new reply the place is dead to them I guess. This place is nice, like I can't name anything I dislike about wapchan, it's just too hard to get traffic on smaller sites like this these days. People here usually post in good faith when they reply, what they post just doesn't spark an interesting discussion, like if everyone is in agreement that show X is good well then there is nothing to discuss most of the time. Not that I want people to make b8 threads, but with more people more (also controverse) opinions and stuff gets posted and it becomes more interesting. But yeah no idea how to attract people like that without getting a lot of idiots as well, I guess being a retro and slow board filters a lot of those for now but that might change if we advertise this place in the wrong places.
(1.61 MB 300x225 ranchan type.gif)
>>717 >I didn't come here for a while, like 1-2 months, as I was busy. No problem, I've was pretty busy myself over this past month. There isn't really a direct solution to all of this, at least in terms of what I can do from my end. >People don't want that, they go to the sites where they get a hundred replies on the same day at the cost of having hordes of idiots posting there, like 4chan, Twitter and Reddit etc. if you press f5 and there isn't a new reply the place is dead to them I guess. It's too bad, since I've read "I'd post on wapchan if there was more activity" quite a bit. >This place is nice, like I can't name anything I dislike about wapchan, it's just too hard to get traffic on smaller sites like this these days. Thanks. I always knew this site was going to be quite niche making it, and getting traffic wasn't gonna be easy. With how centralized the net is now many people arent really comfortable posting outside of mainstream sites, including 4chan. >Not that I want people to make b8 threads, but with more people more (also controverse) opinions and stuff gets posted and it becomes more interesting. I don't even mind bait, but I think part of this is the fact that most of the people posting around here have probably been around the block enough to form actually decent opinions unlike the seasonal posters on /a/. >But yeah no idea how to attract people like that without getting a lot of idiots as well, I guess being a retro and slow board filters a lot of those for now but that might change if we advertise this place in the wrong places. I wouldn't want that to happen. While /pol/ boards do get a lot of traffic, I don't agree with the vast majority of those kinds of opinions, and I also don't want to host yet another political hellhole on the modern web. Truthfully, I don't mind the way things are going. This is still one of the few places where you can discuss niche shows without shoving them into a pre 2000s thread. I've floated the idea of giving this site some related social media (mostly on twitter) just to help promote it, since we've probably dried up the well of /a/ by this point. I think focusing on making this site feel unified and having a distinct culture is what we should focus on, since that's what I've always tried to do with wapchan - make it feel like one site that happens to have multiple discussion topics rather than independent boards that just happen to share a site, considering that's what a lot of imageboards are like (especially infinity style ones). I'd personally like to have more ways for the "community" to stay engaged as well, since that's what was always nice about the old web - just little independent communities doing their own thing. (back in the day my favorite fourm was j2 - https://web.archive.org/web/20110726113955/http://www.joe.to/ ) Really, we just need to keep posters engaged more, and then start running OC contests or other similar events to give this place more of a culture of its own
Got banned from 4chins again for mentioning wapchan. Getting tired of that crap
>>718 Don't worry about seeing results right away. I think Wapchan is slowly growing.
>>728 Yeah, same happened to me, too. I think we have one sour janny on the lose in 4chan's /lum/.

I've been around since Jan and I've recently noticed there's been a lot more activity around here so that's a good thing. I personally try to post as much as I can about whatever I'm currently watching and reply to threads just to keep up discussion but I know it's not enough when others also need to give some input. Currently watching Macross for the first time so I'll probably make a thread somewhere around here about that in a few days and my opinions of it. Beyond that I doubt I'll be posting except to respond to other anon's. Wish I was playing more retro vidya so I could post on /vr/ but right now I've been preoccupied with modern vidya.
